Lyons Magnus is seeking a Packaging Engineer  for its Fresno location. 

Job Summary: 

The Packaging Engineer will have responsibility for management of packaging related projects,

packaging related standards and development of product packaging processes. The packaging

engineer will be directly involved in internal and customer driven changes to primary packaging,

secondary packaging and pallet design/development to ensure cost effectiveness, package

integrity, product quality and conformance to customer/internal standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

? Working knowledge of plastic bottle, flexible packaging, aseptic packaging, corrugate

case, carton, shrink labeling, pressure sensitive labeling and pallet design and use in

food and beverage manufacturing.

? Development of primary and secondary packaging for food and beverage products using

current industry standards related to quality assurance and food safety.

? Audit, improve and/or develop a standardized packaging specification system which can

be utilized to provide details to suppliers, customers and operations.

? Creation of documentation of quality control procedures for all in-bound components to

identify and isolate out of spec components from entering our production stream.

? Management of pallet pattern development, testing and validation for automated

palletizer systems.

? Interface with primary and secondary packaging suppliers to develop containers for use

in a highly automated production environment.

? Development, execution and reporting of packaging related validation and production

scale tests of new packaging components.

? Serve as a subject matter expert in current packaging technologies as well as a source

for development and discovery of new or new to Lyons packaging systems.

? Provide guidance and direction related to sustainable packaging and provide input to

customer and Lyons Magnus driven efforts in recycling and sustainability initiatives.

? Understanding impact of ambient, controlled environment, cooler and freezer

environments on primary, secondary and pallet components.

? Understand of impact of trailer loading, on road transportation and rail transportation on

primary, secondary and pallet components.

? Work with suppliers on value engineering innovations in packaging design to decrease

cost, improve operational efficiency or customer/end-user value.

Work with IT Department to develop a comprehensive database which integrates with

existing ERP system and provides access to packaging specifications and details which

are used by multiple departments.

? Involvement in the selection and design of packaging related equipment and production


? Provide support to operations and quality departments by supporting trouble shooting

and root cause analysis of performance issues related to materials and their interaction

with packaging equipment.

? Provide analysis and support on data collection for issues related to packaging related

interface with existing equipment.

? Supports efforts for improvements to quality monitoring and automation of inspection

and detection systems to support First Time Right strategy.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

? Working knowledge of data analysis and statistical test procedures.

? Management of project related to packaging and packaging materials.

? Experience with high speed manufacturing processes related to food and beverage


? Experience with Microsoft, Adobe and TOPPS.

? Strong analytical thinking, problem solving skills and attention to detail.

? Strong presentation and interpersonal skills with customers and suppliers

? Proven experience in major package design from concept to commercialization.

? Experience with Food Service and Retail packaging.

? Ability to develop and contribute to a cross functional, collaborative work team.

Education and/or Experience

? Bachelor’s Degree in Packaging Engineering or related course study.

? Minimum 3 years’ experience (5 + years preferred) in packaging development, design,

and manufacturing
