At the City, our Park Technician- Facilities perform a variety of skilled technical duties and physical labor associated with inspection, maintenance and cleaning of park restrooms, facilities, and equipment. Provides responsive, high quality customer service; prepares park facilities for scheduled activities, maintains reservation records and secures park facilities and gates. Conducts cleanup of park grounds and facilities including collection and disposal of litter, sanitary hazards, dog waste and other debris as well as maintenance of garbage and recycling stations. Inspects grounds, buildings, and playground equipment for safety hazards. Educates, informs and advises park users of park regulations to encourage voluntary compliance; and performs general repair and maintenance activities including addressing vandalism and removal of graffiti. Maintains records as required by City policy, state and local laws. Works collaboratively with other teams within the Park Operations Division and staff from other City departments to meet program goals and objectives.
Salary Information and Benefits:
This position will start at Step 1 ($33.59/hour). Employees receive step increases annually in accordance with the Guild of Pacific Northwest Employees, Local 1937 Collective Bargaining Agreement and City policy. The full hourly range for this position is $33.59 - $43.83. For internal candidates, placement within the range is based on City Pay Placement Procedures.

Leave accruals are based on 1.0 FTE, accruals are pro-rated if part-time and require employees to be in paid status at least 120 hours/month.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed primarily outdoors in all weather conditions on irregular terrain. Occasional work indoors at a desk or computer terminal or to attend meetings or training. Frequent exposure to unpleasant odors, dust, and other potential hazards and waste/garbage in park settings. General safety precautions are followed for the majority of these hazards. Special safety precautions are considered for moderate risk waste clean-up and disposal. Safety precautions also extend to the daily operation of City vehicles and power equipment while performing duties. May transport objects weighing up to 50 lbs. on a regular basis. Work entails the use of chemical cleaners and agents; may be exposed to noise and airborne particles.
Frequently interacts with the public and with other park professionals in the field. May be exposed to hostile behavior, offensive language, or interactions with volatile individuals.
Employees are required to use appropriate safety equipment, wear a variety of protective clothing such as coveralls, high visibility clothing, rain gear, safety boots, safety glasses and gloves, and follow standard safety practices.

This position is represented by The Guild of Pacific Northwest Employees, Local 1937 bargaining unit. Specific benefit information including Holidays, Vacation Accruals, Health, Dental and Vision Plans with cost sharing and Deferred Compensation Match can be found in the Local 1937 labor agreement.

Civil Service Information
This position is subject to the Bellingham Civil Service Commission. When a vacancy occurs, the top fifteen candidates or the top 25% of the register will be forwarded to the department for further consideration. All new Civil Service employees are subject to a one-year probationary period. A candidate may challenge the scope, content, or method of an examination or test, and a protest may be filed in writing with the Examiner within five (5) days following the date of the challenged examination. A candidate may also challenge the scoring of an examination or test, failure of the candidate on any part of an examination, or clerical error in examination results of any examination or test, and a protest may be filed in writing with the Examiner within five (5) days of notification of the challenged result.
