Role Overview
A healthcare facility in Athens, GA is seeking an experienced Pathology Assistant for a 90-day onsite contract assignment within a pathology laboratory environment. This role supports gross specimen preparation, surgical dissection, autopsy procedures, anatomical documentation, and laboratory operations under the supervision of pathologists.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform gross examination, preparation, and dissection of surgical specimens
- Assist with autopsy preparation and post-mortem examination procedures
- Maintain specimen integrity, documentation, and chain of custody
- Support tissue banking, specimen storage, and laboratory operations
- Capture and organize anatomical photography for documentation purposes
- Assist with pathology education, training, and research activities
- Maintain laboratory records, safety protocols, and compliance standards
Requirements
- ASCP-PA certification required
- Minimum 2 years of Pathology Assistant experience required
- Experience with gross specimen dissection and autopsy procedures required
- Strong understanding of pathology laboratory procedures and anatomical terminology
- Excellent manual dexterity and attention to detail
- Ability to work with human tissue and specimens in a professional laboratory setting
- Strong organizational, communication, and documentation skills
Nice-to-Haves
- Current CPR/BLS certification preferred
- Experience with bio-specimen banking and tissue management
- Educational or training experience within pathology settings
- Previous traveler or contract pathology experience
- Familiarity with anatomical photography and laboratory research support
Compensation
- $88.45/hour
- 40 hours per week
- Monday–Friday schedule
- No holidays or weekends required
- 90-day contract assignment
