Overview:

The HR Services & Payroll Specialist will assist with end-to-end payroll processing in a large multi-state organization and contribute to the larger HR Services model. The position requires someone with the ability to work with a diverse group of stakeholders and have a focus on customer service. This person will also need to have experience in processing union payroll.

 

Reports To: Human Resource Manager

Responsibilities:
  • Ensure payroll compliance with all U.S. federal, state, and local payroll tax and pay date deadlines.
  • Coordinate with others to perform research and analyze the causes of payroll errors; recommend and implement approved solutions for best practices

  • Resolving all internal and external inquiries regarding payroll Access standard reports as required and running ad hoc reports using BOS, and Workday reporting tools

  • Auditing and funding of union accounts and 401K deductions

  • Coordinate and ensure timely follow up and resolution of payroll related issues and process efficiencies and controls with the appropriate parties including internal (HRIS, HR, IT, Finance, Audit) and external stakeholders

  • Develop Solutions based on data analysis to increase business efficiency

  • Support special payroll projects and assignments as required.

  • Participate in the overall HR Services model, which may include engagement in areas of HR Operations in addition to payroll and time

  • May coach/mentor less experienced staff, assist in on-boarding of new staff and or distribute and follow up on work assignments

  • Serve as the first point of contact for staff inquiries about pay, benefits, and policies.

  • Reconcile payroll reports, troubleshoot discrepancies, and update systems

Qualifications:
  • Education: High School Diploma required, bachelor’s degree Preferred
  • Minimum Years of Experience: 1 to 3 years of experience
  • Extensive Excel skills

  • Able to identify and resolve complex problems with logic and reasoning skills, with limited supervision

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal

  • Able to work calmly and efficiently during stressful situations

  • Must possess strong client interfacing skills
