Providence is calling a Perioperative Assistant (Full-time/DayShift) to Providence Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills, California.

We are seeking a Perioperative Assistant who will prepare operating room for surgery as directed, using appropriate techniques. Provide technical services and assists in procedures as directed. Transport patients and supplies. Participate in the daily activities of the department as an active team member. Demonstrate proficiency in delivering care to assigned age-specific patient population and participates in related continuing education.

In this position you will have the following responsibilities:

  • Implement and maintain established department, unit, and hospital policies, procedures, and objectives as well as improving organization performance program, patient/customer safety, environmental, and infection control policies.

  • Assist the department team before, during, and after procedures.

  • Maintain aseptic techniques. When questionable aseptic techniques are noted, reports this to the RN.

  • Able to scrub in and hold retractors or limbs.

  • Open supplies and sets up for procedures.

  • Assist with care and maintenance of department equipment and supplies.

  • Assist with specimens collection. Transport specimens and blood products, and delivers items to appropriate destinations.

  • Provide comfort and support for patients by demonstrating sensitivity to patient’s care and privacy.

  • Provide and maintain a healthy and safe environment for the patient and staff by complying with regulatory agency requirements and standards set forth by professional organizations and institutional policies.

  • Clean and prepare rooms between procedures and after terminal cleaning. Monitors and restocks room supplies.

  • Transport patients to morgue according to hospital policy. Transport patients to and from clinical, ancillary, and support department areas as directed by the circulator and/or charge nurse. Assist with transfers to/from stretcher, table, litho gantry, etc. in a manner protecting patient, staff, and self.

  • Enhance personal growth and development through participation in educational programs, in-service meetings, and staff meetings.

  • Participate in unit/hospital quality improvement activities.

  • Attend meetings as required.


Required qualifications for this position includes:

  • Education to meet certification, license or registration requirement.

  • BLS for Healthcare providers sponsored by the American Heart Association

  • Sufficient related experience.

  • Effective communication and ability to effectively work in a team

Preferred qualifications:

  • Basic knowledge of the anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.

  • Basic knowledge of related surgical procedures and related equipment.

  • Knowledge of infection control principles.

  • Skill in performing and maintain aseptic technique.

  • Knowledge of patient safety in the perioperative areas.
