Provides family centered healthcare utilizing a holistic and interdisciplinary approach to deliver state of the art care to all patients; collects and transports laboratory specimens to and from the clinic site and USAUH hospital/facility in accordance with Department/System procedures and guidelines; provides excellent customer service to customers and clients at Patient Service Centers (PSCs); abides by and enforces all compliance requirements and policies and performs these responsibilities in an ethical manner consistent with the organization’s values; adheres to hospital policies including confidentiality; participates in continuing education activities; works independently to safely perform patient care/essential functions; cross trained to performs collections at Outreach Labs, PSCs, outpatient labs, and in house phlebotomy; utilizes proper body mechanics when moving, positioning, and transferring patient without assistance or with assistance when needed for patient safety and when moving equipment/supplies necessary to perform essential functions; positively identifies all patients at all times prior to collection; collects blood samples on inpatients and outpatients according to SOP; selects the correct collection container and maintains specimen integrity, verifies orders, procedures and specimens according to correct procedures; performs micro technique and venipuncture collection in an efficient and timely manner; labels specimen tubes following SOP; orders, receives and processes specimens using LIA to include specimen verification centrifuging, and aliquoting; examines specimen for adequacy and appropriateness; captures specimen data electronically; documents incomplete collections according to SOP; assists other Laboratory workers with processing samples for send out and reference labs; organizes collection rounds; inventories supplies and orders replacements as necessary; delivers blood samples to appropriate laboratory section; utilizes Pneumatic Tube System (PTS) to send specimens to the lab; collects STATS and times specimens as required with minimal delay, priority well defined and followed; performs special testing (e.g., Glucose Tolerance Test, etc.); maintains collection area by keeping it clean and well stocked; practices safe driving habits and follows all safety guidelines; contributes to the department’s standard of excellence in providing quality services to patients and clients; works independently to assist clients with inquires pertaining to specimen requirements and test turnaround times; responsible for daily operations of PSCs to include start up and end of day activities; remains flexible in meeting various work schedule and work environment requirements; communicates and uses appropriate customer relation skills with physicians, patients, families, healthcare team and clients in person and via telephone; demonstrates satisfactory verbal and written communication; maintains positive working relationships with fellow staff and clinic personnel; responds to overhead and/or cellular rages; facilitates the flow of information to the laboratory users regarding specimen collection requirements, ordering requirements, and general laboratory operation information; acts independently and accepts responsibility of clinical laboratory’s policies and procedures; prioritizes and manages tasks in a timely manner; maintains accurate and complete records by: generating collection pending reports; completing collection pending reports; generating Specimen Transfer reports; documenting couriers’ routes and car usage; following up with courier runs and delivery of specimens to the reference laboratory; documenting customer complaints and specimen collection errors and reporting each to supervisor for corrective action; accepts and completes all duties positively and without conflict; cooperates; helps and others and improves the performance of the unit; displays integrity with job performance; completes all mandatory unit, educational and hospital requirements; utilizes cost effective practices in performing all aspects of the job; adheres to current Infection Control and Safety Standards; demonstrates the ability to provide competent patient care to the following patient populations: neonate, infant-toddler/preschool, school age/adolescent, reproductive age, post/peri menopausal; participates on committees as assigned; participates in Performance Improvement activities through quality measurements or participation of ICARE process as assigned regular and prompt attendance; ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required; related duties as required.
Qualifications:High school diploma or equivalent and two years of experience as a Phlebotomist. Experience working independently in a hospital or healthcare setting is preferred.
