I. POSITION INFORMATION

Job Description Summary:

A postdoctoral scientist position is available in the Department of Global Health with Dr. Emily Smith’s research group. The research group focuses on how nutrition and infection shape healthy birth, growth, and development across the lifecycle. The postdoc will support several research projects, including those aimed at understanding risk factors for adverse infant and maternal outcomes in pregnancy and postpartum and evaluating multiple micronutrient supplementation for maternal anemia.

This position is primarily a training position in which the incumbent plays a substantive role in planning and conducting research. In collaboration with the Principal Investigator, this role will participate in independent research, will analyze and interpret data, publish results, and represent the university at conferences and meetings. The position may support research project start-up efforts including preparing literature reviews and overseeing ethical review board (IRB) application processes. This position may also help the Principal Investigator to lead and direct the work of lower-level research staff. This role performs work under the supervision of experienced researchers.

Responsibilities include:

  • Primary and secondary data analysis using software such as SAS, STATA, or R.
  • Plan and conduct independent research; write and publish peer-reviewed manuscripts.
  • Prepare and submit grant proposals.
  • Provide support with data management.
  • Develop communications materials and organize team and stakeholder meetings.
  • Work collaboratively with international collaborators from diverse disciplines.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Incumbent is expected to work well as part of multi-disciplinary teams and have enthusiasm for conducting research at the nexus of clinical care, public health, and policy.
