I. POSITION INFORMATION

Job Description Summary:

The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine (BMM) of the George Washington University, School of Medicine and Health Sciences (SMHS), strives to deliver the highest quality of professional education and training, and conduct cutting-edge research in the areas of biochemistry, molecular genetics and genomics with a goal to better understand human disease. Additionally, the Department continues to have a long and successful record in training Undergraduate, Master and Graduate students at the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences.

The laboratory of Dr. Brett Shook investigates communication between skin resident cells and immune cells after injury and under pathological contexts. The goal of the applicant is to investigate mechanisms that regulate macrophage migration and function during injury-induced inflammation and repair. This will be accomplished through the usage of genetic mouse models, cell lines, human samples, pharmacological techniques, and gene expression profiling, in collaboration with other researchers.

This position is a postdoctoral training position in which the incumbent plays a substantive role in planning and conducting research by designing and conducting experiments in a controlled laboratory setting. In collaboration with the Principal Investigator, this role will participate in the planning of independent research, will analyze and interpret data, will publish results, will represent the university at conferences and meetings, and may develop new theories and methodologies. This position will also allow development of mentoring skills by helping the Principal Investigator lead and direct the work of lower-level research staff. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications

Qualified candidates will hold a Doctoral degree or comparable doctoral degree in a related discipline. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position.

Desired Qualifications:

Experience with epithelial tissues (in vivo and in vitro), mouse models, and modern scientific technologies is strongly encouraged.
