Product Design Manager

Our Product Design Managers participate in design critiques, coach their teams through challenges, make strategic decisions with their peers on our Product and Engineering team, as well as interview applicants to join our team.

Product Design Managers at WP Engine are servant leaders. They help our Product Designers focus on the user and make sure we’re solving the right problems with the best solutions. They support designers through complex problem solving, as well as spend their time growing designers careers.

The day-to-day:

Manages Product Designers responsible for the Flywheel product line. This includes Flywheel (our managed WordPress hosting product), Local (the #1 most-loved WordPress development tool), Growth Suite (a new product for Creative Agencies), and internal Support tooling. Partners and communicates with cross-functional leadership to support the prioritization, planning, review, and timely delivery of design work. Supports their designers on tasks and projects, making sure they have what they need to do their best work. Coordinates with UX Research, ensuring proper involvement throughout the design process. Collaborates with design leadership to develop and promote consistency and standard methodologies. Actively contributes to a positive, productive, outstanding design environment and culture.

Your expertise and passion:

• Have experience leading or managing a design team.
• Have a portfolio of relevant product design work, executed either by yourself or a team that you led, that conveys an ability to ship successful products that people love.
• Champions a user-centered approach to designing software for people.
• Have experience working with Product teams, Engineers, and Product Managers to drive strategy, vision, and execution towards the corporate product roadmap.
• Collaborative, zero-ego approach to work.

What you’re responsible for:

• Working with Product leadership, as well as the Director of Product Design and Creative Director, Product to help shape and communicate long-term design strategy and vision.
• Partnering with Product and Engineering to ensure projects are well-defined, high impact, and successfully executed.
• Manage and coach our Product Designers towards solutions that are simple, lovable, and uphold our standards of quality.
• Ensuring cohesive user experiences across all products.
