Employee's responsibility is to perform duties as a telephone operator, mail room, and or equipment operator. Submits reports to management, coordinates work flow to ensure successful daily work center operations as stated below. Major duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: The incumbent in this position is responsible for the performance of a variety of customer service driven duties to include: clerical and administrative duties associated with incoming and outgoing mail processing, mail and reproduction equipment operation, pickup and delivery of interoffice mail, file concerning incoming and outgoing mail processing, mail equipment operation, pickup and delivery of interoffice mail, file maintenance and telephone operator Respond to a high volume of calls efficiently and promptly, approximately 36,500 calls per month and providing customer service with greater understanding of the functions of the VA Medical Center. As an Equipment Operator the incumbent is responsible for the operation and maintenance of equipment assigned to the mailroom/reproduction unit. Responsible for reviewing all reproduction requests, assuring compliance with VA regulations, copyright laws and local policies. Performs office duties as required to support of the service and Medical Center Mission, i.e.: mailing projects, pager lists, log fire alarm information along with other information needed to be passed on. Other duties as assigned. Work Schedule: Full-time to include rotational weekends, holidays and evenings. Tours are 7:30am-4:00pm, 4:00pm-12:00am, 12:00am -8:00am to cover a 24/7 operation.\nPosition Description/PD#: Program Support Clerk (OA)-Open Continuous/PD00505A and PD00505A\nRelocation/Recruitment Incentives: Not Authorized\nFinancial Disclosure Report: Not required Physical Requirements: The work involves extended periods of standing and walking, lifting items up to 60 pounds, bending, stopping and pushing carts. May need to utilize a pallet jack to move palletized copy paper and bulk mails. The position requires good eyesight, and prolonged sitting in order to process calls or perform administrative tasks. Since calls are of varying difficulty and received at a rapid pace the tempo of pressure creates unusual demands on the operator. The position requires the operation of a van on the facility grounds and a motor vehicle to provide messenger service off facility grounds. The mental stress is much more demanding than the physical stress because of the split decisions that must be made as a police or fire alarm activates, telephones ring, and radio communication requesting instructions or information. The telephone operator must have a keen sense of hearing in responding to numerous audible/visual signals of wire communication receivers, and occasionally weak radio transmissions or signals. Notifications: Position could either be NAGE or AFGE bargaining unit depending on campus Time-in-Grade Restriction - Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements. The grade may have been in any occupation but must have been held in the Federal service.
