GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:  Supports the Assistant Director of Residence Life with departmental planning, professional, and paraprofessional staff selection and training, student leadership and development. Provides essential leadership in crisis management, student welfare concerns, and administrative responsibilities relative to the operation of a comprehensive residential program in a vibrant, culturally diverse environment and meaningful work community. 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support the academic mission of the College within the residence halls through student learning/development and community development programming.
  • Direct overall housing operations in residential and office facilities.
  • Oversee student and community development in residential complexes ranging from 105-350 residents.
  • Encourage students in identifying and fulfilling educational and transitional needs addressing a diverse population through residential curriculum and engagement.
  • Create effective outreach based on literature, research, assessment/evaluation, and practice
  • Promote students' involvement in campus/community governance and civic opportunities.
  • Communicate and enforce student responsibility as campus judicial officer.
  • Maintain an inclusive, respectful, and secure learning and living environment.
  • Sustain visibility and availability for students and staff through positive connections.
  • Recruit, select, train, supervise and evaluate student life staff members in teams ranging from five(5) to fifteen(15), with entry and lead positions.
  • Participate in the long range planning, goals, programming, staffing, and student learning objectives of the department.
  • Supervise the coordination and advancement of departmental goals and initiatives through committee and project work.
  • Management of budget for training, supervision, engagement, and community resources.
  • Represent department at campus functions, regional and national conferences, and professional development activities.
  • Helps to engage and promote a culturally competent residential living environment by fostering growth, understanding, and learning within the residence halls.

Job Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Bachelor's degree required; Masters degree preferred. 
  • Minimum of three (3) years of related experience, including a minimum of one(1) year experience in residential hall operations, student development and/or education.
  • Previous experience in a supervisor role demonstrating leadership skills
  • Demonstrated Cultural Competence

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a diverse work environment.
  • Ability to effectively conduct a full range of administrative functions and project management, with solid organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to lead/teach others. 
  • Ability to work in a team environment; work independently with little or no supervision.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality; and demonstrate patience, and understanding.
