Job Summary:

The Resident Director of Pre-College Summer Programs will work with the Director and Assistant Director of Pre-College Programs, the Director of Camps and Conference, as well as the Director of Residence Life on the operations of all Pre-College activities and events hosted by Dean College. This person will also be a live-in Resident Director for the School of Continuing Studies summer residential pre-college programs.  This position will begin June 7, 2021 and conclude on August 9, 2021. Many of the responsibilities listed below will occur in the evening and weekends.

Job Duties:


  • Meet with School of Continuing Studies and Program Assistant staff on a regular basis to develop, conduct, and evaluate activities; review student concerns/ requests; ensure that all residential staff/students adhere to the program schedule;
  • Follow all Covid-19 protocols set by the College;
  • Oversee the quality execution of all extracurricular and off-campus activities, including student special events and road trips;
  • Create and maintain a supportive, personal, and fun environment that provides opportunities for students to develop to their fullest potential and achieve their learning objectives;
  • Mediate residential life issues by overseeing student activities and monitoring student behavior/interaction;
  • Respond promptly to detected concerns and initiate redirection and/or corrective action processes, as needed;
  • Organize and manage all aspects of residential life administration; functions may include (but are not limited to) student roommate requests, supply purchasing, and special event planning;
  • Manage registration materials for guest arrivals, including keys, swipe cards, key packets and other important materials and information as seen fit by the department;
  • Complete key inventories as groups depart campus;
  • Assist the School of Continuing Studies with phone calls, record keeping & registration of the Pre-College Summer Programs;
  • Track and manage Pre-College applications, waivers and health forms;
  • Coordinate out of state travel to & from Logan or Green Airports with Knight's Shuttle Service;
  • Conduct pre-check in inspections and post-check out assessments for conditions of room and assist with facilities concerns as needed;
  • Must have a valid driver license to transport guests to offsite activities utilizing the college vehicles;
  • Serve in an on-call capacity for summer camps and conferences;
  • Other duties as assigned.

Additional Compensation

  • Furnished apartment/dormitory living quarters and meal plan (when Dining Center is open);
  • College will pay for apartment utilities, including, cable, heating, water, electrical & local telephone service;
  • Resident Directors are afforded use of all College facilities (when available).

Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree required;
  • Previous experience in residence life is a plus;
  • Knowledge of issues pertaining to college life;
  • Commitment and ability to create and maintain a diverse, multicultural community;
  • Demonstrated experience in multicultural issues with a focus on education and training;
  • Excellent problem-solving, organizational, intervention and crisis management skills;
  • Experience working with computers preferred;
  • Valid Driver's License.
