Position Overview:

To provide specialized
respiratory therapy skills and services to our adult, pediatric, and neonatal
patient populations including: bronchodilator therapy, oxygen therapy, mechanical
ventilation, chest percussion, and various diagnostic services.The respiratory therapist is also a teaching
/ information resource for patients, patient families, nursing staff, and
medical staff.



+ Graduate of a School of Respiratory Therapy recognized by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) qualifying graduates to take exams to become a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) required.

+ Experience in an acute care hospital with experience in Adult Intensive Care, Cardiovascular Unit, and/or Pediatric Intensive Care, and/or Neonatal Intensive Care is highly desirable preferred.


+ Respiratory Care Practitioner - RCP required

+ Neonatal Resuscitation Provider - NRP within 120 days of hire required

+ Basic Life Support Certification - BLS within 60 days of hire required


+ Working knowledge of scope of respiratory care responsibilities as well as Respiratory Care Department Policies and Procedures.

+ Working knowledge ofRespiratory Care Act, Title-22 Regulations,Joint Commission guidelines, and general hospital administration practices andprocedures required.

+ Knowledge of consumerrights, work harassment issues, report mechanisms for abuse and neglect,domestic, child, elder.

+ Demonstrates acceptablerespiratory patient assessment skills and understands appropriate clinicalpathway.

+ Exhibits thoroughunderstanding of pharmaceuticals administered by respiratory care.

+ Thoroughly understandsrange and methods of oxygen delivery to all patient populations

+ Demonstrates advancedunderstanding of theory and operation of all mechanical ventilators andrespiratory therapy monitors used at Sutter Medical Center of Santa Rosa.

+ Must have excellentcommunication skills, able to converse effectively with patients, families,co-workers, physicians, consumers, and supervisors.

+ Must have excellenttrouble-shooting skills using observations and deductive reasoning to identifyrespiratory equipment failure.

+ Must possess respiratoryassessment skills including: physical assessment, pertinent patient history,interpretation of appropriate lab findings (i.e. pulmonary function studies,arterial blood gases), physical limitations, and contributing environmentalfactors.

+ Must be an activeparticipant in infant transport service with little or no respiratory caresupervision
