  • Job Objective: A brief overview of the position.
    • This position will provide overall coordination and documentation management of the Perioperative services onboarding process, competencies for new hires, and education.

  • Qualifications
    • Education
      • Required: BSN or MSN or enrollment in an RN-BSN or RN-MSN program within 1 year of hire and completion within 5 years of hire if hired after July 1, 2012
    • Licensure/Certification
      • Required: CA Registered Nurse
      • Required: Basic Cardiac Life Support, ACLS (applies to PACU RN only).  
      • Preferred: CNOR, ASPAN
    • Experience
      • Required: 2 years of clinical experience in a perioperative setting. 
  • Essential Responsibilities
    • Demonstrates compliance with Code of Conduct and compliance policies, and takes action to resolve compliance questions or concerns and report suspected violations.
    • Facilitates onboarding process for all new Perioperative services staff, including contractors. 
    • Provide hospital and on-unit tours for new Perioperative services staff.
    • Maintains an electronic file of all Perioperative services staff competencies and other onboarding documentation as deemed necessary by the Perioperative Department, Human Resources, and the Education Department. Adheres to the Board of Registered Nursing (BRN) requirements regarding the distribution of continuing education units.
    • Tracks and ensures the timely completion of point-of-care testing modules per regulatory requirements.
    • Provides communication to supervisors regarding new on-coming staff to establish an assigned preceptor and work schedule for new staff. 
    • Generates various NetLearning reports as requested by Perioperative services directors/managers/educators and summarizes and interprets data for end-users.
    • Input transcripts (via NetLearning) for Perioperative services orientation training conducted by educators; inputs ongoing training offered by educators; inputs all competencies (initial competencies, point-of-care testing competencies, biennial competencies, and departmental/specialized competencies).
    • Participates in the planning and presentation of annual mandatory training for perioperative staff. 
    • Prepares reports, tests, tables, orientation checklists, letters, handouts, and other miscellaneous documents.
    • Participates in the planning for preparation and coordination of The Joint Commission, other regulatory surveys and provides project management for accreditation projects.
    • Develops productivity outcome measurements for developmental projects. Develops electronic processes to improve communication and education throughout the Perioperative services department.
    • Continually assess the educational needs of staff. 
    • Continually evaluates the onboarding process and makes improvements as needed to facilitate a well-organized, timely, and efficient onboarding process. 
    • Completes patient care assignments in compliance with established hospital policies and procedures of clinical area.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.
