The Radiology Nurse is responsible for working within the established guidelines of the Imaging Services as assigned. The Radiology Nurse is expected to understand and support the Mission and Vision of St. Luke's Hospital. As a professional, the Radiology Nurse is responsible for carrying out the philosophy and objectives established by the Board of Directors and the Management team. Foremost among these responsibilities are strictly adhering to detail in the technical performance of radiology procedures, solving practical and analytical problems, resolving conflict, and implementing constructive change

Responsibilities:Clinical Excellence/Patient Care
Monitors the critically ill patient or the patient requiring special care during his/her stay in radiology.
Initiates orders and administers medications needed prior to and during radiologic procedures.
Understands and adheres to all safety practices (ALARA) while performing duties to minimize any risk of injury and/or exposure to unnecessary ionizing radiation.
Performs patient care functions as required and within the scope of practice.
Demonstrates effective communication and safe hand-offs.
Provides educational opportunities for patients, families and other healthcare team members.
Care Coordination
Assures continuity of clinical care to both inpatients and outpatients requiring radiology services.
Coordinates the effective handling of emergencies arising from contrast media reactions, seizures, cardiac or respiratory arrest and other medical problems that occur in the Imaging Services Department.
Participates in care coordination of the patient across the continuum and collaborates with the patient/family to anticipate steps needed to ensure safe transitions in care.
Departmental Support
Assists in nursing student and radiographer student clinical and/or didactic instruction as necessary.
Supports the School of Radiology educational process and communicates with faculty on student-related progress and issues.
Supports evidence-based clinical practice and questions the rationale and scientific basis for clinical practice and/or changes in practice.
Provides professional nursing practice through compliance with established department routines, policies and procedures.
