Longwood University invites qualified applicants to apply for the position of Seasonal Athletic Trainer in the Athletics department.  The Certified Athletic Trainer Intern is responsible for working with team physicians and the Director of Sports Medicine within the guidelines set forth by the NATA, NCAA, and the Commonwealth of Virginia to ensure the health and welfare of Longwood University intercollegiate and club sport athletes. 

Essential Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Maintain medical/administrative records
  • Apply appropriate protective padding/braces/strapping/other orthotic devices
  • Design/modify appropriate individual rehab of post-surgical/post-injury conditions; Instruct athletes on proper mechanics with rehabilitation exercises
  • Evaluation for biomechanical issues and instruct the student-athlete on corrections
  • Transport student-athletes to appointments for athletic injuries
  • Primary sports coverage will be based on experience (could be, but not limited to: club sports, golf, tennis, cross country, women's lacrosse, field hockey, men's soccer, etc.)


Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • BOC certification as an athletic trainer required and eligibility for a Virginia State License
  • CPR and AED certification
  • Valid driver's license; must meet Longwood University's criteria for driving institution owned vehicle


Additional Information:

This is a part-time, Covid temporary wage, non-exempt position in a pay band 1. Position limited to an average of 29 hours per week and 1500 hours maximum per work year. However, this person will be employed only through May 2021. Commonwealth of Virginia benefits do not accompany this position.  A successful criminal background investigation is required.  AmeriCorps, Peace Corps, and other national service alumni are encouraged to apply.
