NewFields is seeking a Natural Resource Damage/CERCLA Specialist to join our hardworking and innovative team of scientists and engineers who can contribute to growing the natural resource damage assessment practice and assist in expanding business opportunities.  The appropriate candidate should have the necessary technical background and experience to manage and execute CERCLA investigations and natural resource damage assessments in accordance to current NRDA guidelines, including baseline determination, injury determination and quantification, liability allocation, economic valuation, and the ability to effectively negotiate with natural resource trustees.  You will play a lead role in building new client relationships, enhancing existing client relationships, planning and scoping new projects, managing and mentoring our staff, and ensuring our work is executed with the highest standards.


Reporting to the NewFields Sediment Management & Marine Sciences Partners, you will collaborate closely with the rest of our science and engineering team, as well as our 17 other NewFields office locations. You will be ready to tackle any complex issues thrown your way, while maintaining a positive attitude and an eye towards the future of the business.


Status: Full-time

Classification: Exempt

Job Location: Rockland, MA (Boston Area) option for Edmonds, WA

Compensation:  $90,000+ annually; BOE

Requirements

Education: A minimum of a Master’s degree in environmental sciences, ecology, or toxicology

Experience: A minimum of at least ten years of progressively increasing project related experience.

Software - Position requires applicant to have working knowledge of Microsoft Office© software and application. Familiarity with HEA and similar models.

Physical Demands: Position requires sitting/standing for long periods of time, extended hours working on a computer and lifting up to 30 pounds. Field assignments can be in a variety of environments and cultures, including difficult and diverse climates. During field assignments, standing, squatting, bending, and lifting up to 30 pounds may be required over prolonged periods of time.

Travel: Travel to project sites located in the United States, and abroad. It is expected approximately 75-90% of work time will be spent within the home office/Rockland, MA office.

Work Location: NewFields supports our employee’s ability to work from home (remotely) in response to state and local COVID-19 guidelines. As COVID-19 conditions improve and as state and local guidelines allow, it is anticipated that the candidate would report to the Rockland, MA office with an eventual transition to full-time attendance.


Position Responsibilities:

     Project Management – 70%

  • Conduct assessment of injury from a range of potential contaminants (including PFAS,  oil, and hazardous substances), on a variety of natural resources including groundwater, aquatic, and recreational resources (i.e., fishing); 
  • Synthesis and communication of technical data in presentations and written reports;
  • Preparation of technical and legal focused documents; and,
  • Provide support and/or supervision for CERCLA investigations/studies, including planning, implementation, analysis, interpretation, and reporting aspects.

     Networking, Marketing, and Business Development – 30%

  • Support and lead marketing and proposal efforts for natural resource damage assessments programs
  • Support and lead marketing and proposal efforts for CERCLA; Remedial Investigation/Feasibility Studies (RI/FS), remedial design, and construction oversight.
  • Create, budget, design client proposals; present proposals to existing and new clients.
  • Mentor staff
  • Interact with other NewFields’ offices; promote cross-discipline collaboration.
