The Senior IT Technical Writer provides support to the Defense Health Agency (DHA) at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas.


Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Responsible for the integration of CNI Core Competencies into daily functions, including: commitment to integrity, knowledge/quality of work, supporting financial goals of the company, initiative/motivation, cooperation/relationships, problem analysis/discretion, accomplishing goals through organization, positive oral/written communication skills, leadership abilities, commitment to Affirmative Action, reliability/dependability, flexibility and ownership/accountability of actions taken.

Creates and updates on an annual basis, or as needed, technical, procedural and agreement documentation, such as SOPs, Memorandums For Record (MFRs), EXSUMs, Operating Level Agreements (OLAs), Memorandums Of Agreement (MOAs), Memorandums Of Understanding (MOUs), information papers, briefings, governance documentation, policies and procedures.

Provides broad-based technical editing and writing skills used to identify and correct grammatical and formatting errors ensuring documents conform to the appropriate template. Utilizes knowledge of current information technology systems and services pertaining to directory services, enterprise management, server management, storage, backups, operational security, database administration, change management, issue escalation, application patching, updates and application delivery in performing this task.

Uses appropriate, and/or creates, document templates and style guides typically used with the management of information systems. Utilizes word processing and desktop publishing software applications to produce required technical documentation and process flowcharts.

Efficiently communicates in written and verbal forms with technicians, project managers, leadership and high-level customers to obtain and deliver accurate information in the production of artifacts and documents. Transforms technical jargon into fluid, organized, cohesive and comprehensible documents.

Confers with technical subject matter experts, leadership and other individuals to produce required technical documentation.

Responsible for aiding in own self-development by being available and receptive to all training made available by the company.

Plans daily activities within the guidelines of company policy, job description and supervisor’s instruction in such a way as to maximize personal output.

Responsible for keeping own immediate work area in a neat and orderly condition to ensure safety of self and co-workers. Will report any unsafe conditions and/or practices to the appropriate supervisor and human resources. Will immediately correct any unsafe conditions as the best of own ability.


Bachelor of Arts or Science degree in English, Journalism, or a related field of study and a minimum of

three (3) years’ of technical writing, or no degree and 5 years of technical writing or similar experience.


This position requires possession of or the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance

US Citizen


Thorough knowledge of technical writing techniques and practices

Advanced word processing and desktop publishing skills with ability to produce presentation-ready documents and illustrations

Exceptional skills in researching, writing, reviewing and editing technical documents and other materials

Ability to plan, organize, coordinate and execute work

Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure in situations where diverse demands are involved

Excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to use correct grammar, spelling and usage of the English language

Ability to work both individually and in a team environment

Is detailed-oriented, has technical expertise, and is self-directed as an individual and a team player

Possess strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, evaluate, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy

Be able to conduct queries and communicate data findings in written and oral reports and presentations


Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public.


Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.


Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
