The Senior Legal Counsel will advise AXA XL primarily in connection with: (1) insurance coverage evaluations of claims-related matters; (2) insurance coverage litigation involving AXA XL companies; (3) technical support for underwriting and product development initiatives.

As Senior Legal Counsel, you will engage with key AXA XL stakeholders, particularly within the Claims and Underwriting organizations, and analyze and advise on critical claims-related insurance coverage issues. You will have the opportunity to manage disputes and threatened disputes involving AXA XL companies and provide technical expertise and advice in connection with underwriting initiatives, such as reviewing and drafting of insurance policy language.
What will your essential responsibilities include?
- Providing legal services to the Americas Claims Organization
- Providing insurance coverage analyses with respect to claims-related matters for various AXA XL business, including Casualty, Cyber, Professional, Property and Specialty lines of business
- Assistance with respect to the evaluation and management of claims-related litigation and other disputes involving AXA XL companies, including management of external counsel
- Collaborating with members of Claims and Underwriting within AXA XL with respect to assistance provided in connection with initiatives and projects, including Product Development and Underwriting support such as reviewing and drafting of insurance policy provisions
- Opportunities to engage on other Legal, Compliance, and Regulatory issues
You will report to the General Counsel for Americas Claims.
We’re looking for someone who has these abilities and skills:
- Legal experience in the commercial insurance sector, either at a member of a law firm or as a member of an internal legal department
- Law degree (Juris Doctor – JD) and licensed member, in good standing, of State Bar
- Ability to analyze creatively, practically, and strategically
- Exercises sound judgment
- Agility and ability to prioritize, manage, and organize concurrent assignments
- Communication (verbal and written), research, and presentation skills

The U.S. pay range for this position is USD 130,000 – 227,500. Actual pay will be determined based upon the individual’s skills, experience, and location. We strive for market alignment and internal equity with our colleagues’ pay.
