The Social Worker Supervisor will be responsible for both managing the work and operational activities of vocational and paraprofessional employees at the Managed Assigned Counsel Office, including but not limited to social workers and social work interns.   The Social Worker Supervisor will ensure the delivery of services throughout Harris County in support of a criminal defense team through the development of plans for addressing life situations that, if mitigated, may improve a client’s opportunity for improving their lives and providing alternatives to incarceration and sentencing through the criminal justice system.  

 

The Social Worker Supervisor will work with the Deputy Director and Program Administrator to create efficient request templates along with establishing proper caseload limits.   The Social Worker Supervisor will manage and train social worker performance in addition to providing direct services such as helping attorneys identify community services, housing, and other available resources in order to help reduce the collateral consequences of the criminal case life cycle.  The Social Worker Supervisor will work with the Misdemeanor Division Chief & Training Director to host periodic CLEs on compassion fatigue and self-care. The Social Worker Supervisor will help create and monitor internship and externship programs for college students interested in social work.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performs direct services of the MAC Social Worker position, which includes delivery of services throughout Harris County in support of a criminal defense team through the development of plans for addressing life situations that, if mitigated, may improve a client’s opportunity for improving their lives and providing alternatives to incarceration and sentencing through the criminal justice system

  • Creates efficient request templates along with establishing proper caseload limits

  • Manages and trains social workers, which includes performing case reviews, ensuring timeliness of actions, promoting teamwork and positive communication, and providing career coaching through mentoring to ensure staff have effective social intervention, bio-social write-ups, and effective action plans are within the scope of their duties

  • Hosts periodic CLEs on compassion fatigue and self-care

  • Creates and manages internship and externship programs for college students interested in social work
