Description:

Routinely performs all the duties of a staff pharmacist but also utilizes a portion of their assigned work time to a specialty area within the pharmacy that provides direct support or training to other staff, data analytics and supporting pharmacy accreditation.

Trinity Health Pharmacy - Wege Center provides specialty pharmacy care for patients with rare and chronic health conditions which include but are not limited to HIV, Transplant and Oncology.

Education-

  • Minimum: Five-year Bachelor of Science degree in pharmacy from an accredited college of pharmacy. Specialist in one or more areas of expertise within pharmacy.
  • Preferred: Advanced training in their area of specialty; completion of ASHP PGY1 residency

Credentials/Licensure-

  • Minimum: Current registered pharmacist license and controlled substance license issued by the Michigan State Board of Pharmacy. Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification may be required.
  • Preferred: Certified Specialty Pharmacist (CSP)

Related Experience-

  • Preferred: Five or more years of work in a hospital or specialty pharmacy.

Essential Functions-

  • Reviews, prepares and dispenses medication orders per physician order or prescription according to established policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Ensures safe, appropriate, cost-effective medication therapies for patients according to established policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Contributes to the quality and effective operation of the department.
  • Provides clinical consultation and clarification to practitioners. Suggests appropriate, cost-effective therapeutic alternatives to physicians, as needed.
  • Provides drug information and counseling to patients, families, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Participate in the training, education, precepting, and evaluation of pharmacy students and/or residents as assigned.
  • Provides work direction to pharmacy support personnel and verifies the daily activities of pharmacy technicians.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
