Overview
The Speech-Language Pathologist will evaluate and treat residents with speech, language, cognitive-communication, and swallowing disorders in a skilled nursing/long-term care setting. This role is ideal for a clinician who values flexibility while delivering meaningful, patient-focused care in a supportive rural healthcare environment.
Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive speech, language, cognitive, and swallowing evaluations
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans based on resident needs
- Provide direct therapy services to residents with neurological, age-related, or medical conditions affecting communication and swallowing
- Document evaluations, progress notes, and treatment outcomes accurately and timely
- Collaborate with nursing staff, physicians, and interdisciplinary care teams
- Educate staff and families on communication strategies and swallowing safety techniques
- Ensure compliance with state, federal, and facility regulations
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology
- Active Iowa SLP license (or eligibility for licensure)
- Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) preferred
- Prior experience in skilled nursing, rehab, or long-term care preferred but not required
- Strong clinical judgment, communication, and documentation skills
- Ability to work independently in a per diem role
Preferred Experience
- Dysphagia management and swallowing therapy experience
- Familiarity with neurogenic communication disorders (stroke, dementia, TBI)
- Experience with electronic medical records (EMR) systems
- Strong interdisciplinary collaboration skills
