Job Summary and Primary Responsibilities


Our Sr. Packaging Engineer is responsible for design, development, validation, and implementation of a variety of simple to complex packaging projects supporting new products and sustaining projects. Additionally, this position will be leading projects of varied scope requiring different stakeholders and cross-functional team efforts. You'll provide support to Sterile Packaging Operations at internal and external sterile manufacturing facilities. This position will be a subject matter expert in packaging/labeling equipment, processes, and software for existing operations.


Essential Responsibilities


+ Maintain and follow NuVasive’s Quality System requirements; including but not limited to an understanding of ECO’s, validation, documentation practices, and design control requirements

+ Collaborate and maintain cross-functional partnerships with Development Engineers, Supplier Quality, Quality Engineers, Supply Chain, Manufacturing Operations, Regulatory Affairs, and others

+ Manage multiple projects simultaneously with acting like an owner mentality

+ Capable of leading/supporting and executing packaging related projects from design through validation

+ Create packaging project timeline, attend meetings, coordinate resources, protocols, reports as required, ensuring effective communication of ideas, information, and issues to appropriate stakeholders.

+ Provide engineering expertise in the design, development, validation, and qualification of packaging/labeling equipment and software which may include engineering studies and/or feasibility studies

+ Provide support to Sterile Packaging Operations at internal and external sterile manufacturing facilities.

+ Maintains a high awareness of technical trends and developments in the packaging industry


Required Skills / Capabilities


+ Effective communication skills with strong confidence to present before groups of customers, vendors, peers, and leadership

+ Proficiency with Microsoft Office with a strong ability to write reports and correspondence

+ Ability to create and work from engineering drawings


Education and Experience


+ Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 2 years of related experience; or an advanced degree without experience; or equivalent work experience

+ Bachelor’s Degree related to Packaging, Medical or Regulated Industry preferred

+ Strong knowledge of packaging test methodology per ASTM standards

+ Solid understanding of packaging materials’ capabilities and equipment

+ Thorough knowledge of equipment and process validations, including development of protocols and execution of protocols

+ Understanding of physical and structure package testing procedures

+ Experience in a manufacturing environment for designing, specifying, assembling, and validating packaging/labeling equipment, processes, and software

+ Knowledge of statistical techniques, DMAIC/six-sigma certification

+ Knowledge of GMP/FDA regulations
