Amazon Ads is looking for a Senior Principal, UX Designer to join us as we innovate and streamline campaign planning, management, and reporting experiences, making the complex seem simple. You’ll be involved in all aspects of product development from brainstorming the next innovation to working collaboratively with user research, engineering, and product management to bring it to life.

We are looking for a UX Leader who loves learning, and is passionate about conceiving experiences in the abstract and then driving that vision into solid design deliverables such as complex workflows, wireframes, user interface designs, interaction models, and prototypes. You have a comprehensive understanding of the current state of web technology and best practices, with a critical awareness of implications on user-centered design and functionality. You are detail-oriented, comfortable working on technical teams, skilled in using data to make decisions and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment.

At Amazon, we put our customers first in everything we do – including our advertising programs. We are investing heavily in building solutions that enable brands to connect with their customers—globally and at scale—where they shop, read, watch videos, and share online. The Ads UX (AUX) team excels at distilling the needs of a diverse user base into experiences that balance efficiency with robust utility.

Key job responsibilities

  1. Own the UX of an emerging product with impact across Amazon.
  2. Create user-centered designs by considering market analysis, data, customer feedback, user research, and technical constraints/opportunities.
  3. Quickly and thoroughly create user flows, wireframes, design mockups, and prototypes to effectively conceptualize new product initiatives.
  4. Thoughtfully simplify and distill complex processes into intuitive and elegant UI.
  5. Establish and maintain detailed user-interface patterns and specifications—working closely with developers to see your design through to deployment.
  6. Communicate complex, interactive design concepts clearly and persuasively across different audiences and varying levels of the organization.
  7. Partner closely with other product and design teams across Amazon.
  8. Mentor junior talent.
  9. Provide examples of shipped work across multiple platforms.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • 15+ years of experience as a user experience designer, interaction designer, product designer, or similar role designing mobile, web, and/or other applications.
  • An online portfolio of work demonstrating experience creating great user-centered design solutions across desktop and mobile devices.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and storytelling skills.
  • Proven experience with rapid, iterative design and development processes.
  • Proven track record presenting to and influencing people, from other designers to senior executive management.
  • Experience leading projects in a collaborative multi-disciplinary team including designers, web developers, writers, product managers, and software developers.
  • Fluency in best practices for multimodal experiences and design, as well as strong knowledge of usability principles and techniques.
  • Bachelor’s, or equivalent degree, in Design, HCI, or related field or equivalent professional experience within the design field.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 10+ years of experience managing and influencing senior leaders to help teams progress quickly.
  • Excellent bias for action including the ability to juggle multiple priorities and effectively deliver in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Willing to roll up the sleeves to meet business and product deliverables.
  • Design operations experience required to drive organizational design, product roadmaps, project planning, and resource prioritization.
  • Proven ability to drive the design review cycle and present to senior leadership stakeholders.
  • Possess excellent communication, presentation, interpersonal, and analytical skills.
  • Experience with advertising products and technology.

About the Company

A

Amazon

At Amazon, we don’t wait for the next big idea to present itself. We envision the shape of impossible things and then we boldly make them reality. So far, this mindset has helped us achieve some incredible things. Let’s build new systems, challenge the status quo, and design the world we want to live in. We believe the work you do here will be the best work of your life.

Wherever you are in your career exploration, Amazon likely has an opportunity for you. Our research scientists and engineers shape the future of natural language understanding with Alexa. Fulfillment center associates around the globe send customer orders from our warehouses to doorsteps. Product managers set feature requirements, strategy, and marketing messages for brand new customer experiences. And as we grow, we’ll add jobs that haven’t been invented yet.

It’s Always Day 1
At Amazon, it’s always “Day 1.” Now, what does this mean and why does it matter? It means that our approach remains the same as it was on Amazon’s very first day – to make smart, fast decisions, stay nimble, invent, and stay focused on delighting our customers. In our 2016 shareholder letter, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos shared his thoughts on how to keep up a Day 1 company mindset. “Staying in Day 1 requires you to experiment patiently, accept failures, plant seeds, protect saplings, and double down when you see customer delight,” he wrote. “A customer-obsessed culture best creates the conditions where all of that can happen.” You can read the full letter here

Our Leadership Principles
Our Leadership Principles help us keep a Day 1 mentality. They aren’t just a pretty inspirational wall hanging. Amazonians use them, every day, whether they’re discussing ideas for new projects, deciding on the best solution for a customer’s problem, or interviewing candidates.
