JOB SUMMARY:     Under supervision of the Assistant City Engineer, responsible for a broad range of technical tasks which include the implementation and operation of the Stormwater Management Program for the City of Sand Springs.

MAJOR DUTIES:

  • Performs duties in support of the floodplain management program
  • Perform duties in support of the stormwater drainage systems designees
  • Prepares reports; writes memoranda and correspondence
  • Performs duties in support of the stormwater quality program
  • Prepares and submits required federal, state, and local permits
  • Performs public and private drainage issue investigation and resolution
  • Performs various grading, stormwater, and floodplain inspections
  • Performs duties in support of the master drainage plans and regular stormwater detention program
  • Provides verbal assistance to engineering and construction firms developing within the City
  • Performs field investigations to gather data necessary for troubleshooting, maintain, or improving utility infrastructure
  • Consults with various entities concerning spills and hazardous waste clean ups
  • Other duties as assigned   

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Valid Class D Oklahoma Driver License
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Technical training in computer science with GIS experience is preferred

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY POSITION:

  • Knowledge of departmental policy, city policies, and regulations
  • Knowledge of relevant city, state, and federal laws, regulations, and policies (i.e. Federal Register)
  • Knowledge of engineering and construction practices and procedures
  • Knowledge of stormwater management regulations, procedures, and techniques
  • Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures
  • Knowledge of Quality Control as it relates to sampling and analysis
  • Knowledge of correct safety standards and procedures
  • Skill in the use of computers and various software programs
  • Skill in oral and written communication
  • Ability to establish and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and use initiative
  • Ability to work well with others in a team environment

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS:

  • The Assistant City Engineer assigns work in terms of division goals and objectives.  The supervisor reviews work through conferences, reports, and observation of division activities.

GUIDELINES:

  • Guidelines include department operations, City ordinances, and the City Employee Handbook.  These guidelines require judgment, selection, and interpretation in application.

COMPLEXITY:

  • The work consists of varied technical duties in support of the department. Frequent interruptions and/or the volume of work to be performed as well as inclement weather conditions contribute to the overall complexity of the position.

SCOPE AND EFFECT:

  • The purpose of this position is to maintain perform technical duties in support of the department.  Successful performance results in the efficiency of department and city operations.
