The Surgical Attendant works under the supervision of the Director. Performs cleaning of all areas and furniture within the surgical suite, perioperative and related areas. Assists the schedule coordinator with transportation of patients, pick-up and delivery. Assists with stocking of supplies. Demonstrates knowledge and skill in the application of and caring for orthopedic equipment.

Essential Physical Requirements

- Lifting, equipment (50 lbs), patients (100 lbs), extremities (30 lbs), supplies and linens (25 lbs). Pushing and pulling equipment (500 lbs), patient charts and beds (600 lbs), wheel chairs, OR tables, mop floors.
- Crouching, crawling, kneeling, and stooping. Cleaning of OR Rooms.
- Reaching, transfer patient from cart to bed, high dusting, and removing supplies from shelves.
- Restraining patients.
- Ability to take call.
- Set up traction, clean operating rooms.

- Observes patients carefully for any changes in appearance, behavior, and/or verbal complaints and reports them immediately to nurse. Anticipates and assists with the emotional needs of the patient. *in SDCU and PACU
- Performs duties and errands for department, adhering to specific instructions from nurse and/or members of surgery management team.
- Takes vital signs, I&O, etc. and communicates information to appropriate persons when working in SDCU and PACU.
- Performs shave preps effectively in accordance with accepted nursing procedure and with minimum of direction or supervision when working in SDCU and PACU.
- Assists with positioning and moving patients utilizing proper body mechanic techniques.
- Assists with cleaning and set up of operating room and equipment, returning equipment to proper location.
- Stocks supplies and maintains assigned areas in a clean and neat order, i.e., scrub sinks, lounges, holding room, etc. Promotes effective and economical use of supplies and equipment. Inspects routinely and helps maintain patient carts in good working order.
- Participates in informal teaching of co-workers, orientation of new personnel, and assist in educational experience of students.
- Takes call as necessary within the department.
