Systems Analyst

Job Description

This position is responsible for designing, developing, and configuring new code as well as maintaining existing programs using COBOL on company critical applications. Considerable mainframe experience in batch and CICS processing is required. Experience with DB2 and SQL skills are needed.  Must be effective in both a team setting and as an individual contributor. Strong documentation skills, as well as solid verbal and written communication skills are required.

Systems Analyst Job Responsibilities:

• Implement computer system requirements by defining and analyzing system problems; designing and testing standards and solutions.
• Define application problems by conferring with business colleagues; evaluating procedures and processes, and recommending solutions.
• Analyze and design applications.
• Develop prototypes and proofs of concept prior to formal project adoption.
• Prepare test data and perform unit testing.
• Help ensure high standards of security, performance, reliability, and quality of the development process.
• Provide day-to-day support for production applications.
• Create user and technical documentation.
• Provide on-call support on a scheduled basis.

Systems Analyst Qualifications / Skills:

• Mainframe experience, COBOL, JCL, CICS, TSO/ISPF is required.
• Strong SQL skills and experience with DB2, SQL Server or other database is required.
• Experience with the Policy Management System (PMS) is desired.
• Software design, documentation, testing, and maintenance.
• Must possess strong communication skills, written and verbal, demonstrated by an ability to effectively communicate with all levels of staff and management.
• Must possess strong problem solving skills with an ability to provide quick turnaround.
• Ability to work in a cohesive team environment.
• Ability to plan and use time wisely.

Education, Experience, and Licensing Requirements:

• Four-year degree preferred and at least 5 years programming experience.
• General knowledge of insurance applications will be an asset.
• Must be legally able to work in the United States.
