Job Highlights

The Unit for Neuroscience Nursing (UNSN) is a 20-bed acute care unit that specializes in providing comprehensive treatment plans and advanced post-surgical care for patients with neurological and spine disorders. This unit also treats neuro patients undergoing ketamine infusion therapy and those who have an externalized shunt or lumbar drain. Nurses on this unit participate in a team nursing care model that allows nurses to practice at the top of their scope and provide the highest quality of care and overall patient experience. Job Description

Under general supervision, to provide nursing care to patients based on the nursing process, UAB Hospital Standards of Nursing Care, and UAB Hospital policies and procedures while ensuring quality of care. To orient patients and family members to surrounding environment, acting as a patient advocate. To collect patient assessment data and notify RN of potential problems. To evaluate patient s response to care and report findings to RN, document delivery of patient care, effectively respond to emergency situations, demonstrate positive interpersonal skills, meet patient s educational needs, and serve as a role model to other members of the patient care team.

Graduate from an accredited Practical Nursing Program or equivalent required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement. Currently licensed or licensed by endorsement as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) by the Alabama Board of Nursing required. Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association (AHA) is required or should be obtained within 30 days of employment. Depending on the unit/department, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification and/or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) from the American Heart Association (AHA) may be required.
