Provides support and leadership for the daily operations of all Patient Access functions while performing the day-to-day duties of a Patient Access Specialist. Provides training and mentoring of staff as needed.
The Team Lead should be proficient in the registration process, understand both hospital and departmental policy and procedures. Conducts patient/guarantor interviews, explain hospital policies, privacy practices, patient bill of rights and financial responsibilities. Ensures that pre-certification and/or authorization are obtained, patient liability is collected while performing quality service to our customers with daily cash reconciliation. Works well with ancillary departments to ensure information provided is timely and distributed accurately.
Performs essential functions as listed under Patient Access Specialist, Benefits Advisor, or Pre-Cert/Insurance Verification job descriptions.
Mentors/trains new employees to the various functional activities required for all patient registration activities.
Provides support to Patient Access management team in measuring and monitoring team members performance regarding quality and accuracy, as well as up-front collections on a monthly basis. Provides input into staff performance appraisals, schedules, and resolving employee issues.
Supports special projects and business analysis as requested.
Reports to: Assistant Director of Patient Registration
High school diploma or equivalent required or at least three years of directly related experience may be substituted for the required education.
Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment.Organizational and time management skills.Ability to prioritize assignments.Ability to operate standard office equipment, including but not limited to, telephone, computer, copier, printer, calculator, fax machine.Ability to perform basic mathematical functions,
Must be able to take on-call responsibilities to ensure adequate staffing and to problem-solve any needs that may arise.Must be able to work overtime as needed.
Minimum Work Experience
Medical terminology, billing and/or collection experience preferred. Computer experience required. Two to three years of recent experience in an acute healthcare setting is preferred.
