TEAM SPORTS AND ARCHERY INSTRUCTOR

Position Announcement

Position Mission: To facilitate the delivery of programming that offers growth and relevant progression for youth during the summer experience.

REPORTING AND RELATIONSHIPS

You will report to the Camp and Expeditions Program Manager and provide supervision to counselors and program assistants assigned to assist in all sports and archery programming.

POSITION AVAILABILITY

You will be expected to work hours from 7:00am to 9:00pm on a typical day and additional hours when necessary. The standard work week is 6 days. You will live at resident camp (Lake Valley Camp) during the summer and share living quarters with other employees and campers.

You will also be expected to attend a mandatory two weeks of staff training at the Resident Camp prior to the start of the first summer session.

BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY

You ensure that participants and employees are in a safe and equitable environment while participating in your program area as well during general camp activities. This includes the physical and emotional environment.

You lead and deliver age-appropriate and engaging sports and archery programming for the camp community; you will prepare a written curriculum that includes goals, methods, schedule of activities, general and emergency procedures, inventory of equipment, and other necessary information.

You will train staff in safe sports and archery range practices and procedures; Provide regular feedback to counselors and program assistants while they are working in your program area.

You will actively participate and assist in the preparation and implementation of camp, including All Camp activities, staff training, bus duty, inventory/clean-up and more.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

You believe that with the right support and access to quality programs and experiences, all young people are able to achieve at the highest level imaginable.

You have skill and talent in delivering Archery programs; you are able to lead and give direction to people who are assisting in Archery programs.

You are highly ambitious with an ability to work independently and maintain a strong dedication to partnership.

You are calm under duress and able to make critical decisions in a quick and logical manner to minimize risk and to ensure the safety and well-being of participants and staff.

CERTIFICATIONS

Level 1 Archery certification or willingness to take and successfully pass the Level 1 test.

Certification from a nationally recognized provider in first aid, including training on blood borne pathogens preferred.

Certification from a nationally recognized provider in age-appropriate cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) that includes the use of breathing devices preferred. (PEAK can assist in attaining certification)

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

High school diploma/GED required.

Previous archery/work experience at a summer camp preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS

It is important that you be physically and mentally able to meet the challenges of navigating and working in a remote, natural resident camp setting. Summer camp jobs are seasonal and hours are irregular, including nights and weekends. It is important to have the ability to maintain a positive attitude under adverse conditions (i.e. hot weather, rainy weather, long days, campers waking you up at night, etc.). You will work outside for sustained periods of time.
