Job Title: Surgical Technologist Job Specialty: Surgical Technologist Job Duration: Not Specified Shift: Day - 8x5 - 9 AM Guaranteed Hours: Not Specified Experience: Minimum of 1 year License: Completion of a technologist training program accredited by an agency recognized by the Department of Education Certifications: - Surgical Technologist Certification (CST) preferred; if not certified, must obtain certification within six months of hire - Basic Life Support (BLS) - American Heart Association Must-Have: - Experience in a hospital operating room - Knowledge of anatomy and physiology, instrumentation, suturing materials, needles, prosthetic devices, and other supplies - Knowledge of wound healing and complications - Understanding of normal growth, development, and life cycle changes, including physical and behavioral characteristics of individuals for whom nursing care is provided - Skills in sterile technique and processing - Ability to position patients and handle requests made during surgery Job Description: - Provide support to surgeons to ensure the highest quality care for patients during surgical procedures.- Scrub in on surgical procedures under professional nurse supervision, accommodating advanced and complex types of surgeries.- Anticipate the surgeon's preferences for materials or instruments and respond to these preferences proactively.- Update nurses as necessary based on the ongoing assessment of equipment needs and physician preferences, demonstrating sound clinical judgment and adaptability.- Set up sterile tables with instruments, equipment, supplies, and medications/solutions needed for surgical procedures.- Disassemble and reassemble instruments or equipment needing cleaning and prepare them for terminal sterilization.- Monitor supplies and instruments to ensure the sterility of materials, enhancing the Quality Assurance of patient care.- Inventory and monitor the supply for assigned services and order as needed.- Develop and implement educational programs and learning aids for the area/department, such as in-service classes, special projects, and patient care standards.- Provide input regarding needed changes in policies, procedures, and patient care standards.- Participate in assigned committees and perform other duties as assigned.
