As the largest nonprofit, community-owned health system serving the Portland-Vancouver area and the mid-Willamette Valley, Legacy provides a range of services not found in any other single system. Legacy Health has six hospitals with dedicated childrenâ€™s care at Randall Childrenâ€™s Hospital at Legacy Emanuel, more than 70 primary care, specialty and urgent care clinics, nearly 3,000 doctors and providers, over 13,000 employees, and lab, research and hospice. Legacy also has major partnerships including PacificSource Health Plans and the Unity Center for Behavioral Health, a one-of-a-kind center for people facing a mental health crisis, operated as a community collaboration between four regional health systems and numerous community partners.

The Vice President, Chief Diversity Officer provides leadership, direction, and organization to the development and implementation of Legacy Healthâ€™s diversity, equity and inclusion strategy. This strategy is aimed at integrating diversity, equity and inclusion into the culture, communication, and decision-making in support of Legacy Healthâ€™s mission, vision, and values.
To carry out this purpose, the Chief Diversity Officer oversees the organizational strategy to attract, retain, develop, include and promote diverse talent across all areas of Legacy Health; builds and strengthens structures, policies and practices to provide an inclusive environment to all caregivers and the communities we serve; and ensures those we serve receive our highest quality of care and service to meet their needs, regardless of their background, demographics or other identifying and differentiating characteristics. Leads the critical work of embedding diversity, equity and inclusion into systems and practices, and serves as a subject matter expert, providing coaching, education, partnership and consultancy to enable cross-functional senior leaders to implement the diversity, equity and inclusion strategy. Partners with Community Relations, Community Benefit, Quality, Patient Experience, Health Literacy, Supply Chain, Sustainability, Marketing Communications, Patient Access, Population Health, all parts of Human Resources, and other programmatic, operational and strategic areas to integrate and coordinate the implementation of the diversity, equity and inclusion strategy. Promotes organization-wide awareness and activation of diversity, equity and inclusion in order to shift organizational culture.
The Vice President, Chief Diversity Officer establishes a governance structure to engage leaders and champions across the organization to develop annual plans, and provide structure, accountability and support for the work, prioritizing anti-racism. This includes supporting active, inclusive and engaged employee resource groups. The Chief Diversity Officer advises the senior leadership team and CEO on the advancement of anti-racism strategies and leads those efforts to ensure progress is achieved.
This position has authorized budget to fill three new positions to help carry out the diversity, equity and inclusion strategy and will be responsible for supervising the employees in these positions.Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in public or business administration, social science, organization development, or similar field required; relevant direct work experience will be considered. Masters preferred.
Ten or more years of professional-level public or community outreach or diversity/ equity program experience required. Experience working with diverse communities and community organizations and a demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion required. Experience initiating, building and delivering people-related change management and inclusion programs in complex organizations, earning trust with colleagues, and translating research and data into action. Demonstrated relationships with communities of color to encourage Legacy Healthâ€™s participation in communities of color.
- Expertise in cultural competence and diversity/inclusion strategies; excellent communication, presentation, coaching, training, facilitation, problem-solving and conflict-management skills.
- Ability to influence decision-making throughout the organization; ability to work within and navigate matrix reporting and broad-based accountability.
- Strategic vision and executive acumen, change management expertise, persuasive communication abilities, effective relationship building across a variety of diversity dimensions.
- Demonstrated self-directed initiative outreaching to a wide variety of diverse audience. Ability to effectively build relationships and network internally and externally to ensure inclusive and broad participation.
- Skills and experience in public speaking and presentations, large group facilitation and public interaction with diverse, varied audience types and sizes.
- Ability to facilitate and build community collaborations and partnerships to accomplish shared goals and objectives.
- Ability to drive results through indirect management of people and task, using influence, credibility, and vision.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with Legacy Healthâ€™s and community leadership.
- Ability to identify and understand needs, outcomes, and gaps for various stakeholders and community groups through data review and information gathering.
