Job Description Summary:

The Fitness Instructor is responsible for conducting multiple fitness classes and assisting the guests in the Health and Fitness Club when not instructing. Must be able to work a flexible schedule, days and evenings, including weekends.

The Fitness Instructor shall strive to provide exceptional service to both internal and external guests at all times. S/he will be responsible for exemplifying the La Cantera Resort and Spa Culture as the Employer of Choice!

Essential Job functions:

  • Lead Yoga and other fitness group classes
  • Demonstrate practice and technique
  • Offer adjustments and training recommendations
  • Physical fitness, Pilates, and yoga knowledge
  • Excellent communication
  • View Clients Level of skill and adjust as needed
  • Motivational skills
  • Track payroll, record participation data and complete incident/accident reports
  • Teach multiple sessions
  • Demonstrate how to carry out various exercises and routines
  • Offer clients fitness techniques including breathing and posture
  • Watch clients do exercises and show or tell them correct techniques to minimize injury and improve fitness
  • Give alternative exercises during workouts or classes for different levels of fitness and skill
  • Monitor progress and adapt programs as needed
  • Explain and enforce safety rules and regulations on sports, recreational activities, and the use of exercise equipment
  • Give clients information or resources about nutrition, weight control, and lifestyle issues
  • Give emergency first aid if needed

Job Requirements:

  • Must be certified in Group Fitness, Yoga, Personal Trainer or a combination of certifications
  • Must be a United States citizen or possess a valid work permit 
  •  Must be at least 18 years of age   
  • Must be able to work well under pressure 
  •  Must be able to accurately follow instructions, both verbally and written  
  • Must be highly detailed orientated  
  • Must be able to work in a fast paced environment  
  • Must have excellent listening skills  
  • Must possesses excellent communication skills  
  • Must be professional in appearance and demeanor  
  • Must always ensure a teamwork environment  
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule that may include evenings, weekends and holidays  
  • Must have the ability to deal effectively and interact well with the guests and associates  
  • Must have the ability to resolve problems/conflicts in a diplomatic and tactful manner  
  • Must have a passion for creating an exceptional experience for all guests

Working Conditions:

  • Must be able to stand on feet throughout the shift, with intermittent periods of walking and stair climbing. 
  • Must be able to frequently lift and carry up to 25 lbs at shoulder height  
  • Must be able to frequently lift and carry up to 50 lbs;  
  • Must be able flexable be able to bend, squat, push and pull frequently
  • Must be able to perform simple grasping, fine manipulation, squeezing, overhead reaching and repetitive hand & arm movements frequently.
