Privately held Micro Center was founded by two former Radio Shack employees with an interest in technology in 1979. Their flagship store was a tiny spot in the Lane Avenue Shopping Center in Upper Arlington (a suburb of Columbus), Ohio. From that humble beginning, they've launched 20+ stores across the country in California, Colorado, Georgia, Illinois, Kansas, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia and, of course, continued expansions in Ohio. They are now one of the leading computer and electronics retailers in the nation with revenue at 1.05 billion (according to Forbes Magazine's estimate).
The corporate headquarters is located not far from where the retail store began in Hilliard, Ohio. The technology store chain has grown from a 900-square foot store front employing a handful of Buckeyes to an employer of 1001 to 5000 employees spread across 14 states.
