United Rentals Overview

Since its inception in 1997, United Rentals has grown to become the world's largest equipment rental company. It has its headquarters in Greenwich, Connecticut, and more than 830 rental locations across the United States and Canada. These rental locations have four main divisions: general rentals, trench safety, industrial tools, and aerial, power and HVAC. The general rentals stores are United Rentals' most profitable, but its other divisions have seen rapid growth in recent years.

United Rentals' clients include construction and industrial firms, utility companies, municipalities and ordinary homeowners. While equipment rentals remain its core business, United Rentals has expanded to offer sales of new and used equipment, safety training, and 24/7 equipment service support.

United Rentals employs more than 10,000 professionals who helped it generate revenue totaling $4.955 billion for the 2013 financial year, 6.2 percent more than the 2012 financial year. In 2014, United Rentals made its first appearance on the prestigious Fortune 500 list.

United Rentals Job Opportunities

United Rentals looks to hire and retain exceptional employees in sales, branch management, service and maintenance, transportation, and corporate roles.

Entry-level and senior sales members work to increase United Rentals customer base and provide loyal patrons with the service they expect. Branch managers ensure United Rentals' stores are profitable, efficient, and customer-focused. The company's drivers deliver and pick up rental equipment safely and promptly from customers. The $7 billion rental fleet is overseen by the company's service and maintenance workers. Corporate positions with United Rentals help the business grow.

United Rentals Work Culture

United Rentals looks to provide a nurturing environment where employees can reach their full potential and feel satisfied in their labor. The company celebrates teamwork, diversity, shared responsibility and mutual respect. Training and development opportunities help employees climb the corporate ladder.

All employees and their families benefit from United Rentals' comprehensive benefits packages, which include competitive salaries, health and wellness programs, company shares, retirement plans, and work-life benefits. While the company appreciates the value of a good work-life balance, there are plenty of opportunities for motivated employees to accept overtime hours.

More than 10 percent of the United Rentals workforce is made up of veterans and reservists. The company has received many accolades for its efforts helping the nation's servicemen and women transition to civilian employment, including a spot on MilitaryTimes.com's "Best for Vets: Employers for 2014" list. In 2014 it was named one of G.I. Jobs top 100 "Military-friendly Employers" for the fourth consecutive year.
