Individuals who hold this position are also responsible for the timely shipment of customer orders. Whether goods are inbound or outbound, a Shipping and Receiving Clerk is required to maintain accurate records of all activity. They often use handheld electronic devices to maintain and update databases regularly. They report defective materials, keep up the work area and equipment, and ensure an adequate supply of shipping materials is available at all times. If the company ships large or bulky items, the added responsibility of operating warehouse equipment such as pallet jacks, dollies and forklifts may be part of the job.
