Animal Job Overview
If you have a passion for working with the furry, the four-legged, and the like, you may find your calling in animal jobs. Animal care careers run the gamut, from jobs in animal training, to medical care, to grooming. While some animal careers involve only research, most of these jobs involve direct, daily interaction with animals of some kind. For example, professionals in veterinary nursing jobs work with veterinarians to care for a variety of animals, from domestic cats and dogs to livestock. Animal careers may also involve the study of a certain type of animal, such as fish wildlife biologist jobs.
Animal Job Education Requirements
The education requirements for animal jobs vary according to the level and focus of the specific position. At the entry-level end of the spectrum, most animal care specialist and animal care worker positions require no formal education beyond high school. Some employers may prefer applicants with prior experience working with animals.
In the middle of the job spectrum are positions that require an associate's degree and/or certain professional certifications. For example, veterinary technicians usually must complete a two-year program and pass a credentialing exam for licensing or certification.
For higher-level animal careers, employers require a college education or beyond. For example, veterinary technologists typically complete a four-year degree program and pass a licensing exam. Likewise, veterinarians usually complete three or four years of college education in addition to a four-year veterinary medicine graduate program. Other animal careers, such as biologists and forestry workers, also typically need a college education.
