Level IV NICU with a hybrid bed structure (27 single rooms, 4 twin rooms, 1 triplet room, and 3 six-bedded open bay pods) within the Children’s Hospital.</li><li>Neonatal services are integrated with Maternal-Fetal Medicine and outpatient Complex Fetal Care Center to provide perinatal services to patients of the highest acuity and complexity.</li><li>An active ECMO program, a busy NICU Neurodevelopmental follow-up clinic, and a Small Baby Unit.</li><li>All modes of ventilation are used, including high-frequency jet and oscillator, PSV/VG, invasive and non-invasive NAVA, bubble CPAP, and high-flow nasal cannula. We provide whole body therapeutic hypothermia and have 24/7 coverage by pediatric surgery, pediatric cardiovascular surgery and a full complement of pediatric subspecialists. We have an active transport team that can provide hypothermia with a full line of intensive care during transport.</li><li>Involvement in clinical and bench research: neonatal pulmonary disease, genetics of surfactant A protein, neonatal abstinence syndrome, neonatal hypoglycemia, bronchopulmonary dysplasia, sepsis, neonatal genetics, among many other projects.</li><li>Ready access to Pediatric Clinical Research Office research nurses, coordinators, and IRB- and regulatory specialists, as well as biostatisticians.</li><li>Penn State was the sixteenth center to join the Vermont Oxford Network and was one of the first 10 centers to begin VON’s multi-center quality improvement work in 1995.
