Copier Technician Jobs Overview
Workers in almost every industry rely on copiers to some degree. When copy machines break down, it can be a major inconvenience; secretaries may not be able to send letters, teachers may not be able to print out enough copies of exams, and billing may be delayed if a copy machine malfunctions. A copier repair technician can provide a solution for these issues. Similar maintenance jobs include positions such as Copy Machine Operators.
Copier Repair Technician Duties
Copier repair technicians are responsible for troubleshooting both hardware and software issues related to copying, printing and scanning. Technicians use their knowledge of copy machine engineering, the operation of testing equipment and hand tools on a daily basis. Copier repair technicians also possess good people skills; much of the job depends on proper communication between the client and the technician. The duties of a copier repair technician may include reading manuals and blueprints in order to correctly repair copying equipment, troubleshooting copier problems either in person or over the telephone, writing service reports, ordering replacement parts and maintaining paper supplies.
Copier Technician Education and Requirements
Copier technician jobs generally do not require a college degree; applicants can get the practical knowledge they need from a trade or vocational school. Many companies require copier repair technicians to be familiar with different operating systems, including Windows, OSX, Linux and some mobile operating systems. Copier repair technicians need to be well-versed in electronics theory. They must have basic knowledge of computers and networking as well as file management. Although some companies hire copier repair technicians as part of their on-site staff, many copier repair technicians are on-call workers. Those who work in an on-call capacity may need to show proof of a clean driving record.
