Overview:
The Electroencephalographic (EEG) Technologist I completes EEG studies in the inpatient Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU) and in the outpatient Sleep Electroencephalographic (EEG) Clinic. This position will perform Continuous Electroencephalographic (cEEG) monitoring; evaluations; and data analysis of patients with seizures. This staff member will edit and archive EEG video data; ensure proper documentation; provide technical assistance; follow protocols; review data; write reports; engage in training; and maintains databases, equipment, the technical environment, and laboratory inventory. The incumbent will also explain procedures to be performed in a manner that is age appropriate and understandable to patients and their family. **One (1) year of clinical experience performing EEG technologist duties required.** **$2500 Hiring Incentive; this is a night shift position  

Responsibilities:
1. Complete Electroencephalographic (EEG) studies including but not limited to; equipment set-up for Continuous Electroencephalographic (cEEG) monitoring recordings; application of scalp electrodes utilizing the International 10-20 (or 10-10) system of electrode placement; and the application of collodion or paste adhesives. 2. Complete activating procedures (i.e., hyperventilation and photic stimulation); eliminate and/or properly monitoring physiological and non-physiological artifacts; review, evaluate, map, and classify impressions of Ictal, Interictal, and Paroxysmal events from EEG video data. Annotate event(s) occurring during daily scanning. Edit and archive EEG video data, documentation, and mapping. 3. Maintain clinical databases and archives ensuring appropriate records and file locations are saved. 4. Assist physicians in real time with technical aspects that may interfere with EEG interpretation/report generation. 5. Work with the Facilities department to keep the technical environment appropriate for medical care and technical recordings. In addition to the inpatient medical team, collaborate with the Nursing, Child Life, and Behavioral Psychology departments to develop, implement, and monitor medical procedures for the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU) patients. Communicate with inpatient team regarding non-LTM EEGs. 6. Write preliminary report and detailed description of EEG patterns, seizure semiology, radiologic findings, mapping of abnormalities, and selection of representative EEG samples. 7. Appropriately maintain, clean, and store all equipment and laboratory inventory. 8. Educate the patient and family regarding the EMU monitoring procedures. Ensure that the interaction is according to the audience’s (i.e., patient and family) level of understanding. 9. Ensure quality control for all studies. 10. Serve as the point of contact for the lab’s Emergency Medicine Physician (EMP) regarding technical aspects.

Qualifications:
QUALIFICATIONS: Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification is required. EDUCATION: Must be enrolled in or have graduated from a Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Program (CAAHEP) accredited Neurodiagnostic Technologist (NDT) program. EXPERIENCE: • One (1) year of clinical experience performing EEG technologist duties required. • Experience working with patient populations with disabilities preferred.

S/he is responsible for coordinating the day-to-day clinical operations to include resource allocation assignment of technical staff performing quality control data and troubleshooting lab equipment. This position understands the clinical significance of testing performed. The END Technologist II provides support for the Chief Technologist including participation in the education and training of END technicians/technologists students residents and fellows. In addition the END Technologist II provides management coverage when the Chief Technologist is unavailable. These functions are performed in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations and MedStar Health's philosophy policies procedures and standards.Primary Duties and Responsibilities <ul><li>Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies procedures quality standards and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.</li><li>Performs Electroencephalogram (EEG) studies including long-term epilepsy monitoring including ECS recordings evoked potentials cortical brain mapping WADA perioperative evoked potential monitoring and ambulatory EEG with special parameter monitoring END for adult pediatric neonatal in/outpatients and other special studies of the department on the nursing units and intraoperatively if neeed.</li><li>Functions as a work leader to assist in the workload distribution among area's work staff suggesting technical innovations and planning work schedules and assigning priorities according to load and clinical urgency.</li><li>Summarizes the patient's neurologic status and clinical history from the chart and patient or other designated person and explains the recording procedure to the patient and any family designee present.</li><li>Adapts methods and instrumentation to obtain optimal results based on history clinical observations and END findings.</li><li>Provides appropriate patient care and detailed observations of clinical manifestations during seizures and other emergenct situations.</li><li>Ensures electrical safety of the patient at all times. Follows infection control and OSHA standards and guidelines.</li><li>Completes all necessary record keeping and storing of records or graphs.</li><li>Keeps equipment in clean operating condition performs maintenance and minor repair of laboratory equipment and reports the need for major repairs.</li><li>Participates in conferences technical meetings and other educational activities and serves as in service training instructor for END Technician Technologist trainees and other medical personnel.</li><li>Assumes other duties and responsibilities that are appropriate to the position and area. R. NCV T. R. EMG T. CLTM and five years working as END Technologist ORBoard registration in one of the following END fields: (R.EEG T.) R. NCV T. R. EMG T. CLTM and 2 years of experience as END Technologist I preferred and</li><li>CPR - Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (includes BLS and NRP) for healthcare providers from either the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within 90 Days required and</li><li> Additional unit/specialty certifications may vary by department or business unit. </li></ul>Knowledge Skills and Abilities<ul><li>Current knowledge of basic EEG evoked-potentials and nerve conduction studies.</li><li>Must be able to follow detailed instructions on all procedures.</li><li>Able to establish good rapport with patients public and the staff.</li><li>Able to work with severely ill patients.</li><li>Demonstrates sound independent judgement and initiative.</li></ul>
