Completion of formal training in stationary engineering, or power plant operations, experience working with boilers, steam systems, condensate systems, chillers, cooling towers, heat exchangers, pumps, turbines, chemistry, instrumentation, maintenance, safety practices, hazardous materials handling, use of Microsoft Office, skilled in use of hand tools, basic mathematics skills, and ability to type 20wpm. The primary responsibility of the Section of Utilities is to provide manufactured utilities to the Texas Tech campus, the Health Sciences Center, University Medical Center, The Texas Tech University Museum, and the Fiber and Biopolymer Research Institute in the form of steam, chilled water, compressed air, and treated water.
