Allegany County is classified as a “code home rule” county under Article XI-F of the Constitution of Maryland, with an annual budget (FY18) of $138,083,961, and approximately 400 full-time employees.

 Allegany County is situated in the heart of Western Maryland equidistant from Baltimore, Washington, DC, and Pittsburgh, with a total population of 73,000.  The County’s diverse businesses and industries produce a myriad of different products including high-quality paper and packaging, raw resources for energy, and national defense equipment and materials, and employ approximately 35,000.
