Art Van Furniture

The Midwest number one furniture and mattress company was founded by Art Van Elslander in 1959. What began in a modest 4,000 square foot store in East Detroit is now more than 120 locations across the Midwest including Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio and Iowa. There are nearly sixty Art Van showrooms and sixty freestanding Art Van Pure Sleep mattress stores.

The founding philosophy was to provide the community with quality furniture at great prices with high standards of customer service and that belief continues six decades later. Having built his company with the belief that "buildings are just brick and mortar, but the heartbeat of a company is its people," Van Elslander's business savvy and groundbreaking practices have earned him the loyalty of his employees and the respect of the furniture industry.

In 2017, Art Van Furniture became a part of the Thomas H. Lee Partners, a private equity group based in Boston, MA. Art Van will continue to be The #1 Furniture Retailer in the Midwest and have a strong place in the community with the Art Van Charity Challenge and sponsorship of the Thanksgiving Parade in Detroit as the presenting sponsor.
