Position Overview

Our client, a Fortune 100 industrial manufacturing leader, is seeking a Robotics Localization Software Engineer to join a technical team focused on positioning and localization for autonomous and semi-autonomous systems. This role develops production-quality software that enables machines to robustly localize within their surrounding environment, working within a technical team led by an Architect and Program Manager.

Key Responsibilities

•         Develop production-quality C++ software for positioning and localization, including design, documentation, coding, product quality, and validationCollaborate with team members to prototype and bring to production algorithms that enable autonomous and semi-autonomous systems to localize robustly within their environment
•         Estimate position and altitude, both absolutely and relative to terrain features and static or mobile equipment, implementing filters using perception-based, inertial, and GNSS inputsResearch and design localization algorithms and software
•         Contribute to requirements generation and architecture design considerations for the localization architectureSupport functional safety software design and validation processes
•         Collaborate with and mentor localization team members to help execute team goalsParticipate in all aspects of the development process, across the various phases of the software development lifecycle
•         Primarily an in-office role, onsite in Irving, TXOccasional work in labs or at proving grounds, requiring PPE and safety glasses

  Requirements

  Education & Experience

•         Bachelor's degree and 5+ years of relevant experience is required ORMaster's, or PhD in Robotics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science and 2 years of experience is required

  Technical Skills Required

  Required:

  Identifies and documents specific problems and resolution alternatives, helping to analyze the risks and benefits of alternative approaches to reach a decision on resolution
•         Uses fact-finding techniques and diagnostic tools to identify problemsDiscovers, analyzes, and resolves software or application problems, including analyzing code, logs, and current systems as part of advanced troubleshooting
•         Records and reports specific technical problems, along with the processes and tools used to solve themIdentifies common issues, problems, and considerations for each phase of the software development life cycle
•         Interprets application system designs, program specifications, product development plans, and functional documentationApplies structured programming techniques with strong engineering practices, including debugging and profiling skills

  Desired:

•         5+ years of Robotics/Autonomous solutions experience illustrating deep technical domain expertiseProven experience implementing filtering solutions, including Error State, Kalman, and Extended Kalman filters
•         In-depth knowledge of Inertial Measurement technology and Inertial-Based Navigation and/or Guidance SystemsAbility to survey literature for ideas and convert research papers into production implementations
•         Experience with localization, including Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM) type approaches, utilization of graph optimization libraries, and overall state estimationKnowledge of robotics frameworks such as Robot Operating System (ROS)
•         Strong foundation in mathematics and fundamentals (3D geometry, linear algebra, statistical error modeling including Gauss-Markov processes)Ability to work in various coordinate system references and perform transformations between them
•         Understanding of physics-based modeling, vehicle modeling, and dynamics
