K-8 Special Education Teacher | Full-Time (.4 FTE)

Job Summary:

We are seeking a dedicated, collaborative, and student-centered Special Education Teacher to support K8 students across a variety of learning environments. The successful candidate will design and deliver individualized instruction aligned with students' academic and social-emotional needs, monitor and document student progress, and partner closely with general education teachers, families, and support staff to foster inclusive, supportive, and effective learning experiences for all students. Responsibilities also include conducting evaluations and assessments for private school students in accordance with applicable special education regulations and district procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

• Plan and implement data-driven instruction in the resource room and/or classroom for individuals and small groups.
• Monitor, document, and report student progress toward academic, behavioral, social, and emotional goals.
• Utilize specialized tools, programs, and equipment to scaffold learning and support student needs.
• Collaborate with classroom teachers to enhance learning environments and instructional strategies.
• Conduct assessments and evaluations to determine students' academic levels and instructional needs for students in district and attending local private schools.
• Develop, maintain, and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and other relevant special education documentation.
• Facilitate planning and placement team (PPT) meetings.
• Partner with related service providers and behavior specialists (BCBAs) to implement individualized programming.
• Supervise and support paraprofessionals in classrooms and resource rooms.
• Perform other duties as assigned to support student learning and school initiatives.

Physical Requirements & Working Environment:

• Frequent standing, walking, bending, and movement between classrooms and resource areas.
• Ability to lift and move educational materials, student supplies, and occasional equipment (up to 2530 lbs).
• Support students in hands-on activities, including fine and gross motor exercises, adaptive physical activities, and personal care when necessary.
• Engage actively in classroom management and student supervision, including assisting students with mobility or physical guidance.

Qualifications:

• Connecticut State Department of Education Comprehensive Special Education Certificate (165) or equivalent.
• Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
• Experience with K-8 students preferred.

Working Conditions:

Regional School District No. 1 serves rural Northwest Connecticut and includes six elementary schools and one high school.
