Position Objective: The District Nurse will promote and protect the health, safety, and well-being of all students in accordance with MA Department of Public Health (DPH) regulations and district policies. This position exists to support student learning by providing direct health services, managing chronic conditions, administering medications, and responding to medical emergencies. The School Nurse will collaborate with families, staff, and community health providers to develop and implement individualized health care plans, foster healthy school environments, and ensure that all students are able to fully access their educational programs.
This particular .6 position requires the District Nurse to work 3 full days a week, from either 7:05-1:58 pm, 8:00-2:40 pm, or 8:50-3:35 pm. The exact schedule will be determined based on FLRSD needs.
Responsibilities:
Responds to health issues and medical emergency situations for the purpose of addressing immediate safety concerns Administers health care and First Aid for the purpose of providing appropriate care for ill, medically fragile, and/or injured children Assesses and evaluates the health and developmental status of students for the purpose of identifying physical disorders and other factors affecting the learning process Collaborates with parents, students, health care providers, and/or other agencies for the purpose of promoting needed treatment, securing information and complying with legal requirements Develops and implements Individualized Health Care Plans (IHCPs) and Emergency Care Plans (ECPs) for students with chronic conditions Engages in special education processes, including participation in IEP/504 planning and implementation as it relates to health and wellness for individual students Conducts programs and/or activities (e.g. in-service training, hearing, vision, color vision, immunization review, scoliosis screening, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring compliance with government mandated requirements Designs health maintenance plans for the purpose of addressing students'' health needs and implementing health care directions from parents and/or physicians Maintains communication with parents and all involved community practitioners and agencies for the purpose of promoting needed treatment Maintains health care plans, medical emergency information, immunization records of all students for the purpose of ensuring compliance with state law and providing information required for transfer of records as needed Monitors all student medications administered at school as prescribed by a physician Refers students and families requiring further medical attention and provides appropriate community resources of necessary services and assuring continuity of health service and care Performs other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit Completes health and wellness associated tasks as assigned by the Principal or designee and the Director of Student Services
Required Qualifications: Current license as a Registered Nurse (RN) in Massachusetts Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or higher Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) School Nurse Licensure, or eligibility to obtain licensure Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check
Preferred Qualifications: At least two years of recent clinical nursing experience, preferably in pediatrics, school health, or community health Current certification in CPR and First Aid; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and/or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) preferred Knowledge of MA DPH regulations and guidelines related to school health services Experience in developing and implementing Individualized Health Care Plans (IHCPs) and Emergency Care Plans (ECPs) for students with chronic conditions Familiarity with special education processes, including participation in IEP/504 planning and implementation Strong assessment, triage, and clinical decision-making skills Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for working with students, families, school staff, and healthcare providers Ability to manage confidential information and complies with HIPAA and FERPA Commitment to fostering an inclusive, safe, and healthy school environment that supports the academic success and well-being of all students
Salary & Terms of Employment: In accordance with the Freetown-Lakeville Regional School Collective Bargaining Agreement. Employment is contingent upon job performance, program needs, and funding. Salary Range per CBA with EAFL: estimated $35,000.00
