Description
Accounting Manager
LHH Recruitment Solutions is seeking an Accounting Manager for one of our nonprofit clients located in Oakland, California. The work schedule is hybrid and will be in-office 1 maybe 2 days a week. This is a full-time, temporary leadership opportunity for an experiencedaccounting professional with a strong background in month-end close, general ledger management, financial reporting, and team supervision. The ideal candidate will have experience managing high-volume accounting transactions, leading accounting staff, and supporting audit activities in a fast-paced environment. Experience within a nonprofit organization is highly preferred.
Responsibilities:
Lead the month-end close process, ensuring deadlines are met and transactions are accurately recorded.
Review and approve invoices, ACH and check payments, employee reimbursements, credit card transactions, and youth stipend payments for accuracy and proper coding.
Review and approve journal entries and maintain the integrity of the general ledger.
Perform account reconciliations and prepare transaction-level reporting as assigned.
Support the annual financial audit and tax return preparation by preparing schedules and responding to auditor requests.
Supervise the Staff Accountant and Accounts Payable Specialist, providing leadership, coaching, and performance support.
Assist with onboarding, training, and cross-training of accounting team members.
Support the implementation and ongoing use of Sage Intacct and related finance systems.
Identify and implement process improvements that strengthen internal controls and improve operational efficiency.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
Minimum of 3–5 years of progressive accounting experience, including supervisory responsibilities.
Strong experience with month-end close, account reconciliations, journal entries, and general ledger management.
Experience with accounting and financial software systems; Sage Intacct experience is highly desirable.
Experience with MIP and/or Concur is a plus.
Highly proficient with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
Excellent attention to detail, organization, and ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
Strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across departments.

Experience: 5+ years of accounting experience with demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience. Nonprofit accounting experience is strongly preferred.
