Join Our Team as a Senior Instructional Designer!

Are you an experienced instructional designer with a passion for technical training and workforce development? PG&E Academy is looking for a dynamic professional to lead the design and development of apprenticeship training programs within our Power Generation business line. This is a fantastic opportunity to work in the vibrant Bay Area, specifically Livermore, with the flexibility of a hybrid work schedule (90% remote/10% on-site).

What You'll Do

  • Lead the creation of technical apprenticeship courses for Power Generation trades.
  • Conduct needs assessments to identify training requirements and recommend effective solutions.
  • Collaborate with Senior Learning Strategists and Instructional Designers to develop curriculum maps and assessment approaches.
  • Guide the use of learning technologies and tools to enhance training effectiveness.
  • Support Instructional Designers in following the ADDIE model and ensuring quality standards.
  • Estimate project costs and develop schedules in collaboration with the team.
  • Manage project execution, ensuring timely and budget-compliant deliverables.
  • Facilitate key project meetings and present updates to stakeholders.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement and apply continuous improvement strategies.
  • Archive course materials and complete project close-out activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Instructional Design, Education, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • At least 5 years of instructional design experience, with 2 years in a leadership or mentoring role.
  • Strong knowledge of instructional design for classroom and skilled trades environments.
  • Experience in designing multi-year technical training programs.
  • Proven project management skills for small to mid-sized projects.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, Articulate Storyline, video production, and web design tools.

Preferences

  • Experience developing apprenticeship programs in skilled trades.
  • Master's degree in Instructional Design, Education, or related field.
  • Experience in the utility industry or similar environment.
  • Familiarity with tools like Questionmark, Author-It, MS Teams, and virtual learning platforms.
