Description of Job

Job Summary:

As a Parking and Transportation Specialist, this position performs services essential to parking management, customer transport (pick-up and delivery), parking rules and policy enforcement, field motorist assistance, customer service, vehicle traffic control and other duties necessary in support of the Parking and Transportations overall mission. Maintains vehicle and daily equipment checked out to employees, completes daily log information for equipment.

Essential Job Functions: Customer Transport:

  • This position will follow all relevant safety regulations and state laws governing vehicle operation and ensure that passengers follow safety regulations.
  • Arrange to pick up customers or groups of customers on a regular schedule at preassigned locations on campus.
  • Provide persons with disabilities with assistance entering and exiting vehicles and helping them with any equipment when requested.
  • Communicate with dispatchers by radio or digital device to exchange information and receive requests for passenger service.
  • Operate vehicles with specialized equipment, such as wheelchair lifts, to transport and secure passengers with disabilities or special needs.

Parking Enforcement:

  • Using License Plate Recognition (LPR) equipment, this position is tasked with reviewing vehicles parked on campus for compliance of Auraria Campus Parking and Transportation Services regulations and policies.
  • Enter and retrieve information pertaining to vehicle registration, identification, scofflaw, and parking credential status, using hand-held, in-vehicle, or in-office computers.
  • Patrol an assigned area by vehicle or on foot to ensure compliance with Auraria Campus Parking and Transportation Services regulations and policies.
  • When vehicles are not compliant with established Auraria Campus Parking and Transportation Services regulations and policies, this position will issue applicable warnings, citations, vehicle immobilization, and vehicle tows to violators.

Customer Service:

  • Provide front-line support to customers using pay stations, assisting with payment processing and troubleshooting issues. Address customer inquiries and concerns related to parking payments with professionalism and accuracy.
  • Offer vehicle assistance services, including support with tire change tools, jump starts, and other non-mechanical issues.
  • Maintaining positive customer service and professionalism while transporting customers within the Campus Accessibility Shuttle.
  • Manage high-stress and emotionally charged situations with calmness and professionalism, using de-escalation techniques when necessary.
  • Maintain a customer-focused approach, ensuring a positive experience even during difficult interactions.

Vehicle and Equipment Serviceability:

  • Conduct routine checks on vehicle systems and equipment-including lights, brakes, horns, and windshield wipers-to ensure safe and proper operation.
  • Perform basic vehicle maintenance tasks such as inflating tires to proper pressure levels and refueling or topping off essential fluids like oil.
  • Clean and maintain fleet vehicles by vacuuming interiors and washing and polishing exteriors to uphold department standards.
  • Maintain all assigned equipment and supplies, including handheld citation devices, mobile printers, radios, citation books, rain gear, tire-marking chalk, cones, signing, and vehicle boots, ensuring they are in working condition.
  • Promptly report any vehicle malfunctions or issues to the dispatcher, supervisor, or full-time coordinator to ensure timely resolution and minimal downtime.
  • Maintain daily or vehicle specific logs for equipment, recording of pertinent information regularly.

Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must possess a valid unencumbered Colorado drivers license at the time of application.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Experience in Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Microsoft Teams experience.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Must maintain a valid unencumbered drivers license.

  • Must successfully pass a criminal background check.
  • Must be able to work outdoors during varied duties, weather, and seasons.
  • This person selected for this position must maintain their ability to exert up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to move objects.
