Description

  • Applicants seeking short-term or part-time work with the University of Hawaii may apply for Casual Hire positions, which include administrative, professional, and technical (APT) or instructional-type positions. Because of the temporary nature of these appointments, Casual Hire employees are not eligible for most benefits as provided to regular Board of Regents (BOR) and Civil Service Employees (i.e. paid holidays/leave). Casual Hire appointments may last for up to 89 days for full-time employees, and up to 1 calendar year for part-time employees.

Other Conditions: Casual Hire temporary appointment is expected to begin August 2026, or soon thereafter. Not to exceed one year.

Duties:

  • Piano Accompanist for the Performing Arts Department, including Chorus/Voice classes, Convocation, and required Juries or Showcases for the Fall and Spring Semester.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Possession of a baccalaureate degree in any field from an accredited university, or equivalent experience.
  • Advanced pianist with at last 2 years of experience as an accompanist for a class or other performance-based organization.
  • Ability to sight-read and play sheet music quickly and skillfully, without advance preparation.
  • Able to stop and start, sometimes picking up in the middle of a phrase, according to the needs of the instructor or director.
  • Must be available for rehearsals and performances with students and faculty.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Experience working as a piano accompanist in a college environment.
  • Experience working with the demands of live-stage productions.
